Hey There

We are very excited to have our website up and running and have you here enjoying the excitement with us!

We are located in beautiful Scotland, SD. A small town with a tight-knit community.

All About Me

My name is Kelli and I am the owner of Scotland SD Rummage. I have always had a passion for rummage sales and consignment. Around the age of 13, my father decided to have a yard sale. Watching him take each item out to the yard and preparing them to sell, sparked something in me. I began to bring my things out to the yard and started my own section of items. I brought out more and more until my room was almost empty.  My TV, side tables, shelves, everything. My dad looked at me and said  "you aren't going to have anything left!". I smiled and replied "well, if I sell everything, I can take the money I made and go down to Goodwill and get all new stuff!" He shrugged his shoulders and said 'okay, if thats what you want to do." I sold so much that day, my room was nearly empty. This was thrilling to me. Now, I get to redecorate my room. This whole experience was a RUSH and I was loving every minute of it. I even sold more than my dad! From then on, whenever we would have a yard sale, I would make all the signs and put all of my things out for sale.

Fast forward to 2010, I was preparing for a yard sale and while bringing my items out, my neighbor said "hey, can I put some stuff i your sale for you to sell for me?" Jokingly, I said "sure! if I get a percentage of your sales!" She smiled and said absolutely! Thrifty Gifties was born.

The next sale I had, a different neighbor asked if I could sell her stuff. I told her what I did for the previous sale and she said "absolutely, you can have a percentage."

In 2013 the yard sales were huge. I had 6 tents (10x10),  a furniture row, an Avon store, a Ross, a Home Goods, a Toys R Us and so much more.  My 6 car driveway, front yard, side yard, everything covered in stuff for sale.

I had 87 consignors in my yard sales. I made huge, bright, beautiful signs and people loved it.

People were constantly commenting on my signs. They were pretty darn good, if I may say so myself.. :)

Wednesday afternoon I would start prepping by getting all the tents, tables, and clothes racks up. Then I would sort and stack inventory. Thursday morning, I would start putting out the signs and finish setting up around 6am.  At 7 am I would start getting customers while I was still setting up. They would always comment on stopping because they saw my signs and wanted to say hi.

I had regular customers that came every sale. One of my favorite customers was a lady that always came for the jewelry! I would tell her about all the new consignors and all the new jewelry I had for her to look through. She would be there for hours talking and looking through everything.

There was this cute old guy that would be walking his dog and he would make sure to stop and let me play with his dog while we would chat. The regular customers would come and say "wow, this is the best yard sale ever."

August 2020 I decided to pack up my home and move. The "Covid Sale" we called it. I put out my signs and posted it in every group I could. This sale went on for 2 weeks. I really needed to get rid of everything. There were so many people, people like I had never seen at my sale. I guess people were tired of being locked up in their homes and decided they wanted to get out. The last 2 days of the sale we started posting everything for free to get rid of it. We had people at 2am with flashlights on their heads rummaging through all the stuff. It was incredible. I closed up that sale thinking well, that's my last yard sale. It was by far my greatest sale ever.

I have always dreamed of owning a Thrift Store. I used to say, "if I owned a Thrift Store it would be such a great place". I wanted it to be super affordable and beautiful!

Christmas 2022, after taking down the trees I had in the shop, I looked around and said what If I open just a little Thrift Store. Just a little one. I laugh at that now when I see what Scotland and ALL THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES have done!

We opened Scotland SD Rummage March 26th 2023. About 3 months in,  we had to expand to the kitchen area in the shop. Then, in the same month, we got the opportunity to use the front end of the building next door for our furniture. I had to buy storage units to store overstock and got to use another building for more storage.

I ended up buying both of the buildings we are in now and started fixing the roofs and making it all usable space. We have been open now for a year and 5 months and have expanded the store 4 times already!

I wanted an AFFORDABLE OPTION for the community and all the surrounding communities.

We are Donation and Consignment based and have over 100 consignors now. We do a lot for the community too from Free Prom Dresses to food boxes for families, paying school lunches and end-of-the-year debts, free school supplies, haircuts for kids, paying overdue water bills, and so much more. I started this to help the community, that's all I have ever wanted was to help. Scotland SD Rummage is a dream come true. Shipping our products allows us to have support as far as California, Colorado, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Vermillion, can't forget Wagner, Tyndall, Tabor, Tripp, Menno, Utica, Viborg, Corsica, and so many more. Thank you for coming from near and far to support us. Without you all, there would be no us. We take pride in being the AFFORDABLE OPTION FOR YOUR BUDGET!

THANK You for all your love and support!!
